In this experiment, I tried to create a layers in one photos through the concept of reflection.
This photo shows how we can create frames inside a photos that don't match the original frame of the photo. This photo also looks at how subjects can be seen from two different points of view at one time, through photography. I tried to add lots of layers in htis photo by using two reflective surfaces meaning it adds more depth to the photo. There are 3 layers in this photo; the faint outline of the building outside, the camera on the window glass and the camera in the mirror.
This photo creates layers which aren't obvious because there isn't a frame of the reflections. This makes it look like the camera is in the reflection. Really, the outline of the building is beyond the window and the camera is reflected on the glass window.
To take this experiment further, I wanted to really place myself into the mirror and so I had to think up ways I could do this. Eventually I came up with the idea to put a photograph onto the mirror to make it look like my face is in the thing the mirror reflects. Here are the places I wanted my face to go in:
Here is the photo of the mirror that I will put these photos in to:
I then edited these photos into different layers and put them together to make these images:
I chose the night sky becuase it develops further into space, just like a mirror. The mirror reflects space but it can also create more space as if it was a space itself. For example, a mirror against a wall makes it look as if the wall isn't really there but instead of it is the space of what is being reflected.
I chose the sea becuase people have different emotions when they look into a mirror, this is like the changing tide of the sea. People can have waves of happiness when they look in a mirror or they can drown in their sorrow.
I chose the television because when we look into a mirror, it is like we are seing ourselves in another place as if we are in two places at once, this is like if we saw ourselves on the television.
In this project, I looked at how we can be transported into another space using the mirror. I also looked at how we look into a mirror and the feelings we get when we look at ourselves in it. I liked this project because it made me think more about mirrors and the journies that we take when we look into a mirror emotionally and how we prepare for a journey using the mirror.
