Lee Friedlander

Lee Friedlander is an American based photographer who was interested in the social landscapes of places. One of his works was called America by car. In this project, he took photos out of the car windows whilst he went on a journey through America.

I like this work becuase in most of the photos, not only is there the picture outside the window, there is also the picture in the wing mirror. This work gave me the idea for an exmperiment: to film the front window of a car and have the image in the rearview mirror aswell.
Another project that Lee did was called American 'social documentary.' In this project, Lee takes photos of TV's in motel rooms in America and the envirnment around them, also taking a photo of people then putting the photo of them into the telivision..

I like this work because it creates a contrast and a juxtaposition of the area and the person inside the television. It looks like the person has been transported to the television even though they are somewhere else, as if they can be in two places at once. I have taken from the work the idea of being transported to another place and so being in two places at once.
